Jared and Grant talk about perfecting your pitch today on Young Hustlers.
Your pipeline won’t stay full without a pitch. An elevator pitch is also not the same thing as a sales pitch. We found one guy describing the elevator pitch as followed:

1) What is your product or service
2) Who is your market
3) What is your revenue model

This is wrong.

Grant’s advice for making a pitch:

1) What do you want them to remember? Not many things—think about the 1 big thing you want them to remember. Don’t try and be a jack of all trades.

2) What is your big claim to fame? Think about the one thing that sticks.

3) What is your competitive advantage? What are you best at? Tell them!

4) Who are the decision makers?

5) How many different pitches do you need? A lot!

You need to determine who it is you are pitching, that will determine which direction you want to take your pitch.

Watch Trump pitch. “Make America great.” He doesn’t get into details. People remember what he’s about. The pitch is not a sale. It’s not about asking questions. You want to put a hook in. Go for broke in the pitch!

  • I think that elevator pitch you mentioned is really the pitch you would make when telling an investor about your business idea, investors would care about your competition and business model etc. its typical of an elevator pitch for investment. Not the same as a sales elevator pitch of course, this might be confusing people.

    Great Tips on the Pitch.  I’m working on making mine better. Sounds simple but it is difficult to create a Pitch that differentiates your business or self from everyone else.  Usually most will say close to the same thing when asked.

    Eyork GrantCardone Hi Eyork, here are my comments to help you tune up your pitch. You have a good start. It looks like you are heading in the right direction by breaking down your pitch just like Grant suggests. I will comment on your pitch piece-by-piece.

    “1. One thing you want to be remembered by?
    A. We will find out your problem and fix it.”

    Excellent. That’s a good start.

    If you are able to add the simple service of teaching people how to avoid having their drains clog again after you fix them, it will add a lot of value to you. It will make your company different from the others. And your pitch can be upgraded to create much more interest.

    SUGGESTION:”A. We find the problem causing restaurant’s drains to clog, fix it, and show our clients how to save 30 to 40% on drain cleaning expenses over the next five years.”

    Your guys onsite cleaning drains can hand out a brochure with tips on how to keep the drains running well. The guys onsite should be instructed to show the manager on duty or owner of the restaurant at least one best practice for how to keep the drains running well.

    “2. What is your big claim?
    A. I will give you the best drain cleaning service than anyone else.”

    Great, you’re going to do a great job cleaning their drain. That’s important.

    Now you are ready to juice it up. Remember, like Grant tells us, we are using a BIG CLAIM to GRAB interest and catch our prospect’s attention.
    The big claim needs to have more juice. Your goal with the big claim is to make the prospect instantly know that you are different from the other drain cleaning services.
    Here is one way that you can upgrade your BIG CLAIM so that when you say it, they will get stoked and want to hear the next thing you have to tell them.

    SUGGESTION: “A. I clean your drains to make them run great and show you how to save 40% on drain cleaning expenses over the next five years.”

    “3. What do you do best?
    A. I am going to fix your problem information you need to know about it.”

    Eyork, you are going to fix people’s drain problems and do everything possible to prevent their drain from clogging again anytime soon. Then you are going to tell them what is clogging it and how they can avoid having that happen again. That’s good work.

    “4. Who is the buyer of our product? Or the target market?
    A. All the restaurants down gulf blvd in Pinellas County FL”

    Restaurants are the places that end up having their drains clogged. Eyork, is there anything stopping you from servicing drains anywhere within your driving range? There are a lot more restaurants around than just those on Gulf Blvd! Go for all of the restaurants around town.

    Your guys onsite cleaning drains can hand out a brochure with tips on
    how to keep the drains running well. The guys onsite should be
    instructed to show the manager on duty or owner of the restaurant at
    least one best practice for how to keep the drains running well. If its you that’s on site, then do it!

    Grant, your pitch was effective.. but you can’t go giving your flagship product way for nothing or the only pitching you are going to be doing is a tent at a trailer park…
